Sleepwell Foundation conducted a workshop for the teachers of Navyug Sr. Secondary School, focusing on Effective Communication and Handling Difficult Students on 31st August 2024.

50 teachers from primary to sr.secondary school participated.

The workshop began with an engaging Chinese Whisper activity, demonstrating the importance of clear communication. This icebreaker helped participants, including Principal Ms. Sunita Dewan Tayal, recognize the impact of miscommunication. Teachers learned valuable communication techniques, both verbal and non-verbal, through real-life examples, role plays, and a thought-provoking blackboard activity on the components of communication.

In the second session, the focus shifted to Handling Difficult Students. Teachers discussed the challenges of managing students who disrupt the learning environment. Insights into disciplinary techniques, including reward, education, and punishment, were shared. The trainer highlighted four common student behavior types—withdrawers, monopolizers, arguers, and super talkers—and provided tailored solutions for each. Additionally, practical techniques like the Pomodoro Technique and a formula for calculating students’ attention span were introduced to aid classroom management.

The workshop was highly successful, with teachers appreciating the blend of theory and practical exercises. They expressed a strong willingness to apply the strategies learned and attend more interactive sessions on similar topics in the future.
