In recognition of the serious threat posed by student’s suicide and the important role teacher can assume in reducing suicide risk and responding to crisis situations, Sleepwell Foundation, in association with Connect Hut conducted an online workshop on Suicide Prevention Awareness for Teachers on 10th October 2023. This endeavour was in commemoration of World Mental Health Day.
69 teachers from Sardar Patel Vidhya Niketan, Mandi Road, Atal Adarsh Bengali School, Gole Market, Bidhan Chandra Vidyalaya, Moti Bagh, Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya, New Moti Bagh, Gyan Kunj Public School, Jonapur and Navyug School, Sarojni Nagar participated in the workshop.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sachin Chitambaram, a certified suicide prevention gatekeeper.
The goal of this workshop was to help teachers recognize the signs of a struggling student and to know how to proceed once they have identified that a student is at risk.
The workshop also aligns with the draft guidelines released by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in a bid to combat rising cases of self-harm among students.
The workshop was very informative and an eye opener for the teachers in building a safe and supportive space for the learners. It empowered them to create an environment where students feel safe to share and seek help. It equipped the teachers with practical skills for identifying and supporting at-risk students.
At Sleepwell Foundation, we believe that every life matters!
